I’m always looking for new ways to blow my couples away and, as a wedding photographer, you should be too. Wedding photography is just as much about delivering art as it is about delivering amazing customer service. We all know referrals are the best, and least expensive, way to book a wedding, and providing that little something extra is a great way to get clients to recommend you to their friends.
I love delivering something more to my couples in the form of video, and that’s where Animoto comes it. In this post, I’ll go through my Animoto workflow to show you how to create a video slideshow on your iPad that will ensure your clients’ happiness.
1. Import photos to your iPad
On my way home from shooting a wedding, before I can ingest my cards into Photo Mechanic, I plug the SD card into my iPad mini with the SD to Lightning adapter and look for 30-40 great shots from the day to import that will go into my slideshow.
2. Create a custom album in Photos
Once imported, I put all of the photos into their own album within the iPad Photos app for easy organization (and to save time). I usually title the album with the couple’s last name so I can keep track of it.
3. Create a slideshow with Animoto
Once the album is created, I open the Animoto app to create a new slideshow. I select all the photos from the album we just created in the Photos app.
4. Rearrange and brand your slideshow
Once you select your photos, you can name your slideshow, give it a wedding date, rearrange the photos, and pick a cover photo for the video. Don’t forget to include your logo, and end it with a congratulatory message!
5. Select a style and music
Now that your photos are arranged just how you like them, you’ve added your logo, and you’ve given your project a title, it’s time to give your slideshow some pizazz by choosing a video style and song. Animoto offers over 70 different video styles and 3,000 music tracks for you to choose from.
6. Approve and export your video
After picking out a style and music that matches the feel of the wedding day, you can preview your video before exporting it. This is also where you’ll give your video a description. Once you’ve approved your video, it’s ready to download or share.
EXTRA STEP: Download Animoto Videos for Better SEO
Once your video is created, Animoto allows you to download it at full 1080p resolution. This can be great for SEO. If you download the video at 1080p, you can upload it to your YouTube page (something we all should have). YouTube has become the world’s second most popular search engine after Google (more searches than Bing and Yahoo).
If someone searches Google or YouTube for a video of a wedding at a venue you have shot, uploading a video of that venue to YouTube will increase the likelihood of you coming up at the top of the search results. In the YouTube description you can include a link that takes the viewer back to your website, which hopefully will result in a booking!
That’s it and that’s all
Once you make your first slideshow you’ll be hooked. Being able to create a video slideshow in under 10 minutes is huge. The day after the wedding, put the video on your website, post it on Facebook, tag your couple so that all of their friends can see it, and you will have a huge leg up over the photographer who takes a month to deliver their photos.
Here’s the video of Steven and Sarah’s State Park Wedding that I created in under 10 minutes.
