Nobody likes a plain old “Happy Birthday” text comment on Facebook – or, even worse yet, an “HBD” (seriously, what’s up with that?). But a video? Everybody loves a video. So why not show your friend, family member, or loved one you care by posting a happy birthday video on their Facebook timeline? Here’s how you can make a birthday slideshow video to share in only a few minutes.
Sign in to Animoto
First things first: sign in to your Animoto account. If you don’t already have one you can sign up here. Once you’re in, click Create to get started.
Choose a video style
Set the mood for your video by choosing a video style. We’ve got over one hundred video styles to choose from so pick something that matches your friend’s personality!
You can also choose from one of our video styles created with birthdays in mind. We’ve rounded them up in a blog post on our top styles for birthday videos.
Add photos and video clips
Once you’ve picked a style, it’s time to personalize it with photos and video clips your friend will love. You can upload files from your computer or import them from a variety of sources, including Facebook and Instagram.
Add photos of the fun times you and your friend have had together or simply photos they’ll get a kick out of. I’m making a video for a friend that I don’t happen to have any photos of, so instead I’m using photos of my dog. Once your photos and video clips are added, click and drag the blocks to change their order.
Add titles to tell your story
Once you’ve added photos, click on them to add captions or click Add text to add a title card to share a happy birthday message with your friend. Need a little inspiration? Check out our blog post on 20 Sweet & Silly Birthday Quotes.
p.s. That’s my dog in the picture. He’s super cute, right?
Produce & share!
Once your titles are added, you’re ready to share your video. Just click PREVIEW VIDEO for a quick preview and then click PRODUCE to finish up. Here’s my video:
Once you’re video is produced, it’s ready to share with your friend (or family member, or that special someone). When it comes to sharing a birthday video on Facebook, you’ve got a couple options. You can either download the video and then upload it to their Facebook timeline (if you do this, be sure to upgrade to HD first), or you can export the video directly to your own Facebook timeline and tag them in it (this way your friends can see it too!).
To share the video to your own timeline, click the Facebook button under “SHARE” on the right side of the play page. In the window that pops up, add your message in the description field and then, tag your friend in the “Who’s in it?” box. The video will show up natively on your own timeline as well as your friend’s.
We’d love to see your videos! Feel free to tag us on Facebook as well, or share a link with us in the comments.
