Before you get started, make sure you have the best image, audio and video files possible to create an Animoto masterpiece. Here is a quick guide to help you select the optimal files for uploading to Animoto.
We support JPG, GIF, PNG and TIFF image formats. The maximum file size for images is 20MB. For the best quality videos, we recommend that images be 1024×768 pixels or greater. Lower resolution images may look blurry if you upgrade your video to a higher resolution or view it full-screen.
Sorry, we don’t currently support animated GIFs or transparency.
4:3 or 3:4 landscape and portrait aspect ratios produce the best results in most styles. Images in other aspect ratio’s are perfectly usable, however they may appear zoomed out or cropped in the final video.
It’s easy to get your images stored on Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Picasa, Flickr, SmugMug and Photobucket. Connect your Animoto account directly with these sites to upload images stored there.
We support quite a few video formats and codecs – MP4, AVI, MOV, QT, 3GP, M4V, MPG, MPEG, MP4V, H264, WMV, MPG4, MOVIE, M4U, FLV, DV, MKV, MJPEG, OGV, MTS, MVI. Many video file types use proprietary encoding formats. Video captured by some digital cameras and camcorders may require conversion prior to upload.
Video clip uploads are limited to 200MB and 400MB depending on your plan. We recommend that you size your video clips to at least 720p at 24fps.
Lite and Plus users can include 10-second video clips in their videos. Pro and Pro Premium users can use video clips up to 60 seconds with Classic, Documentary, and Frameless video styles. This will be added to more styles soon.
You can upload any MP3, iTunes song, or AAC file into your Animoto video. The maximum file size is 10MB (or 10 minutes in length), but most songs are usually smaller than this. Make sure you have permission from the copyright holder to use specific music tracks. This is especially important if you are using the videos for business purposes.
