Mother’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re looking to go the extra mile to let your mom know you care, there’s no better way than with a video (in our humble opinions, anyway!). You can easily create a video for Mom, showcasing old photos and video clips, text, and music, using Animoto. Check out the slideshow video example below and read on to find out how to make one for your mom!

Gathering your assets

First things first, you’ll want to gather up photos and video clips to use in your video. For Mother’s Day, it can be fun to include old photos. For help with turning those into a format that’ll work in your Animoto video, check out our blog post on how to digitize your old family photos. You can also use photos and video clips stored on your computer or mobile device, or use photos from Facebook, Instagram, and other online destinations (we’ll provide more details on that later).

Making your slideshow video

Once you’ve decided what pictures and video clips you’d like to use to create your Mother’s Day video, it’s time to get started.

Step 1: Sign in to Animoto

If you don’t have an Animoto account yet, you can sign up here. Then, log in to get started.

Step 2: Select a Slideshow Video style

Once you’re logged in, click the Create button to get started. If you’re a Professional or Business subscriber, or signed on to a trial, you’ll see the option to create either a “Slideshow Video” or “Marketing Video.” If you’re creating a Mother’s Day gift, we suggest creating a Slideshow Video.

Note: Don’t worry if you aren’t sure about what style you want to use just yet. You can always go back and change it later. To do so, just click the “Style” tab at the top of the page.

Step 3: Add photos and video clips

After you’ve selected your style, it’s time to add your photos and video clips. To start, click “Add pics & vids” on the left. A pop-up will invite you to upload files or, alternatively, you can choose to import photos that you’ve posted to Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Smugmug, Dropbox, and other services. We also offer free stock photos and video clips, if you’d prefer to go that route.

Upload photos and videos

You don’t have to choose your photos and video clips from just one place — you can add some videos from Facebook and then go back and select “Add pics & vids” again to add from a different source, until you’ve got everything you want.

Step 4: Put your photos and video clips in order and add text

Next, drag and drop the blocks to put your photos and video clips in the order you’d like to tell your story. Then, hover over individual pictures and click to add captions or use the “Add text” option on the left to add title blocks to your project. Tell your mom how great she is and how much you love her.
