  • Wow, great Job! Simple rules are great! (for the right reasons, of course)

  • Hi, this is Laura. Thank you for commenting and complementing me! But I also would like to know the things that I could improve. Also--how would you answer the question: what would the world be like without rules?

by Angela Stockman, 6 months ago.

  • I believe we have rules to keep us safe. Rules like how fast we're allowed to drive on a certain highway help remind all of us what our speed should be, versus what we want it to be. Rules are reminders to keep us safe.

  • Hi Laura ... in the extreme, if there were no rules ... have you read 'Lord of the Flies'? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_the_Flies

  • Hi Laura, Rules help us to be comfortable in our surroundings. We have grammar rules to enhance communication. We have "manners" so that we know what to do in social situations. Without rules we are unsure how to act and that makes us feel awkward.

  • This video made me really think--as a teacher--about rules in ways I hadn't thought about them. You did an amazing job at getting us to think and imagine while you make a good point. Very powerful message and a great answer to the question.

  • I think that rules are a good thing, but I think you make a good point when you say to "keep it simple". Sometimes people can take rules too seriously. For example, some people who enforce the rules can abuse their power and that is not a good thing.

  • @ Krissy V. Thanks for commenting! Wile I was doing my project, I didn't think of how rules help wile my parents drive, or how they work in my community with smaller things, and keeping us safe.

  • @ Catherine Leach Thanks for commenting and leaving the complements. just like Krissy V. you sort-of made me look at what I wasn't. Thanks again,
    Laura

  • @ Kevin Jarrett No, I haven't read Lord of the Flies, but I'll be sure to look at the link.

  • I think you made a good point that even without rules the community might make some to avoid chaos - and your point about simple is better is wonderful (as is your use of visuals). I am wondering if there are any negatives you can think of?

  • Laura, I think you did made a wonderful video. I love that you said to keep things simple people can sometimes take rules too seriously. However we do need rules to keep people safe (parents set rules to keep their kids safe).

  • also, i think it is wonderful that you mentioned that kids can make the right choices! :-)

  • Rules bind people into a functioning society. Rules also reflect a society’s identity. Without rules, people are subject to uncertainty & waste energy dealing with small decisions. Therefore, a world without rules would be unproductive.
