Celebrating this magical day with the love of your life and the most important people to you should be fun and easy – especially in the planning stage.
Here is our comprehensive guide to creating a wedding reception or rehearsal dinner video that will leave you sane and won’t leave a dry eye in the house.

Go with Pro
With amazing Triple Scoop Music available (and even a Triple Scoop Music “Weddings” category), plus gorgeous pro-exclusive video styles, the ability to add more than one song per video and free HD upgrades, you’ll want a Pro account when creating your wedding reception video.
Tell Your Story
Think of your video as a story with an exposition, climax, and resolution.
Using photos, words and music, create a story arc. With the “Story of Us” reception video, it’s fairly easy since you know this story very well!
Typically we recommend Animoto videos be on the shorter side to keep people’s attention, but wedding reception videos are an awesome exception to that rule. With your friends and family in attendance celebrating your commitment to your partner, you couldn’t ask for a better audience.
Plus, they’ll get super-excited if you choose to include photos with you and them in your video.
Video Style: The Page Turner
Song: Mindy Gledhill – All About Your Heart
Photos Before & After You Met

Before you get started with the video, be sure you have enough photos (and maybe even video clips!) on hand from before you met. Brownie points if you’re willing to include a couple embarrassing pubescent ones.
Then add photos of the two of you as a couple and make sure you have a song playing during that section that matches the fairy tale story you’re telling.
Mix and match songs to really make an impact and make these “chapters” distinctive.
Choose a Video Style
The Video Style you choose really will dictate the personality of the video. Are you more edgy than you are ethereal? Than you’ll probably want “Animoto Original” over “The Page Turner.”

Here are some of our recommendations for video styles, but ultimately you’ll want one that really fits your personality.
- The Page Turner
- Paper Array
- Innocence
- Original
- Coming Up Roses

More Music Tips
Choose the perfect start time for your song
If you like certain parts of the song more than others, you can alter the start time of the song!
Some songs take a few seconds to get going, so starting a few seconds into the song may be a better fit for your video. You can even start in the middle of the song so that the end of a video section aligns with the end of the song. This makes for a smooth transition into another video segment or the end of the video.
Use songs with similar instrumentals back to back
Piano goes with piano. Guitar goes with guitar. You get the idea.
If you want to repeat the same song, add it twice!
There is nothing wrong with finding that perfect song and never looking back.
Sharing is Caring
With a Pro account, you’ll be able to upgrade to HD – perfect for the big screen at your reception!
After the wedding, it is always fun to post this video to Facebook and tag friends and family who were featured in it.
Reception videos are just one way to make your wedding special with video. From memorable save-the-dates to rehearsal dinner slideshows and ceremony keepsakes, video can make sure your day is one to remember forever!
